About The Creators
Dr. Brett Chapman started his journey in dentistry at Arizona State University and then transferred to Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine. However, Dr. Brett Chapman knew that he wanted to advance his education to become a specialist in children’s dentistry.
Dr. Brett Chapman completed an additional two years of studies as well as his residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania allowing him to obtain his specialist achievement. During Dr. Brett Chapman’s studies, he was honored to be presented with an AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) Pre-doctoral Student Award as well as an ADPD (The Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities) pre-doctoral student award as well.
After working as a specialist for many years and seeing over 95 oral conscious and IV sedation patients monthly; Dr. Brett Chapman realized that there was a need for a more functional immobilization system to increase both patient and staff safety and efficiency. Dr. Brett Chapman not only helped design this system, he has also tested it for over two years until satisfied with the final product.
Dr. Brett Chapman enjoys spending time with his wife and five children. During his free time, he loves being in the outdoors, and enjoys any type of water sport as well as competing in Tough Mudder’s.
Dr. J.R. DiCarlo A Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native and lifelong Steelers fan, Dr. J.R. DiCarlo attended the University of Pittsburgh for his undergraduate studies. He later enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry for his dental training.
His education also includes training in hospital dentistry, sedation dentistry, and dentistry for special-needs patients.
In 2005, Dr. DiCarlo moved to Kingman, where he had the pleasure of founding Just For Kids Dentistry. Dr. DiCarlo and his wife, Irene have two daughters, Julianna and Francesca. Dr. DiCarlo is also a huge sports fan and enjoys triathlons, jogging, swimming, and traveling to new places. He also loves his community, and is involved in many service projects throughout the year.
Dr. Ryan Porter An Arizona Native he attended Mesa Community and Arizona State Universities for his undergraduate studies. He then attended the University of Southern California where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. While at USC he spent much of his time serving as class President for 4 years, receiving the Deans award for his contribution to the USC School of Dentistry.
Since his graduation in 2004 Dr. Ryan Porter has owned several successful practices and has spent much of his time in pediatric practices seeing young children and special needs patients. Often performing Endodontic procedures on these patients that most practitioners would shy away from, this is what help him recognize the need for an improved immobilization system that was both comfortable and ergonomically efficient. He was the chief developer of the Joey Board.
Dr. Porter is married and has 5 children ranging in ages from 18 to 2. He loves the outdoors and traveling. He enjoys running in Tough Mudder events as a health fitness challenge.
Designed For Doctor’s Safety
The Joey Board enhances Doctor/Assistant efficiency because of its improved design, allowing for quick immobilization and less readjusting of head position. It also allows for improved ergonomics for the doctor and decreases chair time.

Designed by a pediatric doctor to symbolize that of a baby kangaroo, or “Joey” in a pouch for protection, not restraint. Its revolutionary design increases safety and has been tested extensively. The unique engineering keeps the patient’s head more stable, in a “chin up” position protecting the airway. It provides ideal use for oral conscious sedation and operating room procedures.
